Norman’s broad and lengthy experience has allowed him to develop both an industry accepted, yet personally validated and adapted, framework to approach the type of project(s) that needs completed will help not only in the short-term of understanding, planning, and migration; as well as long-term in developing their own methodology and groups to maintain and evolve their in-house solutions moving beyond.
Norman has both software and business expertise to understand the complexities and options within a logistics environment. He will be able to decode, research, and make recommendations on sanely moving forward in the least risk and highest reward perspective.
One of the greatest attributes that Norman brought was his honest disclosure of the actual situation and options for next steps with his clients. I believe that his disarming personality and delivery of the message will be able to make what could be a difficult message to receive more receivable.
After graduating from the University of Florida in 1985 with my Bachelor of Science in Business and minor in Computer Science, I had a progressive career (Programmer, Programmer Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Information Technology Manager) while working for some of the country's most well-known consumer product brands: Fotomat (film and photo processing), Tropicana Products (beverages), Hanes (apparel), and Gitano (fashion apparel), as well as lesser-known companies such as Weavexx (formerly Huyck-Formex, industrial textiles and vacuum foils for the paper industry), FLA Orthopedics (medical products manufacturer and distributor), and Gepetto (women's apparel manufacturer).
In January 1996 I started my own company, Katzscan Inc. dedicated to providing independent, vendor-neutral software advice and business operations consulting. I am a technical and functional expert in ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), X12-EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), and barcode labeling and scanning solutions including GS1 standards for retail/grocery. I have a niche specialty in supply chain vendor compliance, helping CPG companies with retail/grocery technical and operational requirements and chargeback (financial penalty) mitigation and reduction.
I am the author of three business books, the first two published by a leading academic publisher. I have one published peer-reviewed supply chain journal article. I’ve presented over 60 US and international speaking engagements, and written over 50 US and international print and online articles. In every consulting assignment, my project documentation has impressed my clients, sometimes becoming department or company standards.
With a command of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint), my business and technology background, and my excellent verbal and written communication skills, I am able to clearly and concisely convey complex concepts to all levels of audience. I use familiar terminology, defined definitions, uncluttered images, easy-to-follow flowcharts, and straightforward language to cut through the confusion and deliver understandable and meaningful messages.
I have the ability to take the objective and create the subjective – something that AI (artificial intelligence) cannot really do – in everything that I create, whether for a presentation or for documentation. Great communication needs to tell a story, even when the purpose is for business.
I am mindful that not everyone can differentiate colors equally, so I make every effort to ensure that my documentation or data visualizations can accommodates all viewers.
